Hi !! What’s up everyone! I hope you are all fine and having a nice vacation! Finally my mid-sem is over! I’m so happy to be with you all! And Science Stereo has 600+ family members!!Best wishes to all! Today I’m back with a new thrilling post! Let’s dig into the topic!

There is a total of 13 Nobel prize winners this year. Heartiest congratulations to all laureates! Each year prizes are given for –

  • Medicine
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Economics
  • Literature
  • Peace work

Here 3 fields have been covered(tried).

Two American scientists David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian won the Nobel prize 2021 for Medicine for discoveries of Receptors for Temperature and Touch which the award-giving body said could pave the way for new pain-killers. David Julius discovered TRPV1, a heat-sensing receptor that is activated at temperatures perceived as painful. He used a pungent compound from chili peppers named capsaicin to identify this receptor. Ardem Patapoutian discovered “Piezo” the receptor activated by mechanical stimuli in the skin and internal organs. This “Piezo” was named after the Greek word for pressure. They both also identified TRPM8, a receptor that was shown to be activated by cold, by using menthol found in mint.

In Physics Nobel prize is awarded one half jointly to Syukuro Manabe(US-Japanese), Klaus Hasselmann(Germany), and the other half to Giorgio Parisi(Italy).

Former NOAA scientist Syukuro Manabe and climate scientist of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology Klaus Hasselmann is awarded for “the physical modeling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming.” And Giorgio Parisi is awarded for “ the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales.”

In Chemistry the Nobel prize is awarded to Benjamin List(Germany) and David W.C. MacMillan(American) scientists. They developed a new tool to build molecules that has advanced pharmaceutical research and lessened the impact of chemistry on the environment. The new technique or tool of making molecules i.e. ‘Asymmetric  Organocatalysis’.

Stay blessed everyone! On which topic do you want for new year’s 1st blog post ?! Let me know your valuable thoughts !
