What is chess?

According to Bobby Fischer – ” Chess is WAR over the board . The object is to Crush the opponent’s mind” .

Benefits:

1 . Improves Memory :

Playing chess can improve memory because of its complex rules that the players have to remember when making a move. To avoid previous mistakes , they have to remember the playing style of different opponents .

2 . Develops Planning & Foresight :

Since chess requires strategic and critical thinking , the games helps in the development of the prefrontal cortex , which helps adolescents to make better choices in all areas of their life to keep from making irresponsible and risky choices.

3. Improves Problem – Solving Skills :

When playing chess , the players must think fast & their problem – solving skills must be on point because the opponent constantly changes the parameters .

4. Promotes Creativity :

Playing chess activates the right side of the brain responsible for creativity , which unleashes originally among players .

5. Increases IQ :

A study of 4,000 students from Venezuela showed that playing chess can significantly increase the IQ scores of both boys & girls after four months of playing the brain-game.

6. Excersises both hemispheres of the brain :

A study in Germany indicated that both left & right hemispheres are activated when chess players are asked to identify chess positions & geometric shapes . They have similar reaction times to the simple shapes , but they were using both sides of their brains to respond to the questions about the chess position quickly.

Viswanathan Anand had won the Chess Oscar a record six times in 1997 , 1998 , 2003 , 2004 , 2007 & 2008 making him the third most Oscar – winning chess player.

At the age of 18 he was India’s first chess grandmaster . He has a planet 4538 Vishyanand named after him in the universe .

  3. I especially like the part about adapting to ever-changing parameters. This very much helps with navigating life as every decision we make, and every path we take, changes how the chess board of life in front of us looks!

  4. Hey S.S, I have a problem with my memory because of my epilepsy. This is not an excuse but I’ve found out that I’m more of a left brain. This morning for instance just by looking at a picture of an x-ray with a shoe. The color shows through and it just so happened that I could clearly see the color.
    Later finding out that this is a trait of a person left brain thinkers. I will be researching further.!
